The Port of the Americas Ties Ponce to Global Trade

Print E-mail

South Puerto Rico's Port of the Americas project, a Post-Panamax transshipment facility — referring to the mega size of container ships that are too large to pass through the Panama Canal — is already open for business and growing.

Ponce Port of the Americas, Puerto RicoThe Port of the Americas provides manufacturers the opportunity to offload cargo into a Free Trade Zone for assembly and packaging in Puerto Rico (what's being called the port's value added appeal). The finished products can then be loaded onto smaller ships for export distribution along north and south shipment routes to Latin America, North America and the Caribbean or by air to anywhere in the world.

Among its Caribbean neighbors, Puerto Rico is reputed to be the only island with a workforce that's sufficiently prepared for high-skill medical device, bio-tech and pharmaceutical product manufacturing.
