Ponce's historic La Perla Theater (Teatro La Perla in Spanish) official reopens its doors March 14, following a two-year historic renovation. The Grand inauguration begins with a live concert and continues throughout the entire weekend with an array of spectacles both inside and outside this iconic building in South Puerto Rico (a region also known as Porta Caribe).
Two hotel developers are expressing their interest in building yet another hotel in Ponce, Puerto Rico – this one near the soon-to-be-built Oceanographic Studies Center of the Caribbean, also known as the Ponce Aquarium.
At nearly 80 acres, the largest “passive park” in Puerto Rico is set to open by October 2008 when workers complete the expansion of the Julio Enrique Monagas Family Park in Ponce.
The Ponce Plaza Hotel will be inaugurated in summer of 2008, offering tourist and visitors alike a new vacation option in Ponce’s Historical District. This hotel will join four other hotels in development (Four Points by Sheraton, Marriott Courtyard, Vista Magna Resort, and a yet unnamed project) and a series of new tourist attractions in pushing Ponce into the forefront of South Puerto Rico tourism destinations in a region also known as Porta Caribe.
The Ponce Convention District, breaking ground in the summer of 2008, will position this important Caribbean city as a leading tourism destination in South Puerto Rico and part of a region also known as Porta Caribe. The new Ponce Convention District, will comprise two hotels – a 150-room Four Points by Sheraton and a 125-room Marriott Courtyard. In addition, the convention center itself will have a capacity of up to 3,000 people, a multi-floor parking lot, and the Rafael Hernández Colón Library. The Sheraton company will oversee Ponce Convention Center operations.
The former Intercontinental Hotel in Ponce, Puerto Rico, is about to get a new lease on life – a multi-million dollar transformation into the new Vista Magna Resort. This new project joins four other hotel developments and a variety of new tourist attractions in the works for the Ponce (a central city in the Porta Caribe region). The developers hope that the hotel will be open for business in 2009.
