For reasons unknown to us Patillas, Puerto Rico, is overlooked in most guide books. Maybe this is a good thing, as the area still feels Puerto Rican and has the air of a friendly beach town. The city grew up around the once vibrant sugar cane industry. Later, secret societies met here to plot against Spanish colonial rule.

Our friends from this rural side of the island boast proudly of its beaches, lakes, and forests. And for good reason, Patillas (pronounced pat-E-yus) is largely untouched and simply spectacular in its natural beauty.
