Key Spanish phrases for visiting Puerto Rico Print E-mail

You can probably get by with English only in Puerto Rico, but some fun phrases to know include:

Where's the beach.   ¿Donde esta la playa? (pronounced DON-day es-TA la PLY-ja)

A cold beer, please.  Una cerveza bien fria, por favor. (pronounced una sair-VAY-za be-EN FREE-ah, por fa-VOR)

How much is that? ¿Cuanto cuesta? (pronounced KWAN-to KWEST-ah)

The bill, please.  La cuenta por favor.  (pronounced la KWEN-tah por FAV-or)

Where's the bathroom?  ¿Donde esta el baño por favor? (pronounced don-DAY es-TA el BAN-yo por FAV-or)

Do you need to speak Spanish to do business?

Have to? No.  Is it a good idea?  Yes, especially if you're in sales.
