An alliance of business people from South Puerto Rico (an area also known as Porta Caribe) has formally announced its intention to assist foreign businesses and investors in developing projects related to the Port of the Americas (Puerto de las Américas Rafael Cordero Santiago).

Often dubbed "The Mega Port", the project is currently in development. When completed, the Port of the Americas will be able to accommodate Post-panamax vessels and handle up to 1.5 million TEU's (twenty-equivalent-units) per year and over 600,000 tons of general cargo with over 5,000 feet of pier surface. 

The port, located in Ponce, Puerto Rico, will also provide logistic support under the protection of a Free Trade Zone. An organization called CODEZOL exists to help businesses benefit from this Free Trade Zone.
