Incentives for Doing Business in Puerto Rico Print E-mail

Along with a lower cost of doing business, Puerto Rico hopes to use the following strategies to increase business on the island:

  • Position Puerto Rico as a "cultural bridge" between North American and Latin American business interests (because Puerto Rico shares has both cultural and language dualities to its advantage);
  • Promote the use of Controlled Foreign Corporation (CFC) tax structures, beneficial for multi-national corporations wanting to avoid federal income tax on earning;
  • Continue (but modify) its trade relationship with the United States to further Puerto Rico's economic interests;
  • Offer municipal-based and federally funded job creation incentives (salary reimbursements, training reimbursements, and local tax credits);
  • Streamline the local permitting processes for new businesses and construction projects;
  • And low interest loan programs for entrepreneurial startups.
